November is a wonderful month around this part of north central Virginia.  We usually hit peak leaf season in early November.  The color is usually quite spectacular, although, since it has been so dry so far this autumn, the color is not living up to its usual standards this year.  The color has been nice, but not as spectacular as usual.

This is also the time of the year that I start to reminisce about some of the large family gatherings that we had when I was younger.  I remember Thanksgiving dinners with all of the family around the table: grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.  Sadly, family gatherings have gotten smaller over the years, but still very much enjoyable.  It is always great to spend quality time around a table full of delicious food (especially my favorite, apple pie) with dear family members and treasured friends.  These gatherings give the opportunity to tell amusing stories about beloved family members who are no longer with us and to have a good chuckle together at the same time.
This time of the year, I also yearn for some cooler weather.  I admit, I am not a fan of the often relentless summer heat.  I like donning a nice warm sweater and breathing in crisper cooler air.  And, there is nothing like walking outside and smelling a wood fire burning somewhere nearby.  That really takes me back to my childhood,  smelling wood burning in the fireplace pops and crackles.  I love it!
At The Frenchman’s Corner, while we might decorate for the holidays a little early for some people, we never forget the importance of Thanksgiving with family and friends.  These annual gatherings are so important to all of us to partake in many traditions of this season.  We hope everyone enjoys with bountiful season!
